According to the website of the National Railway Administration, recently, the National Railway Administration released the 2024 Railway Statistical Communique (hereinafter referred to as the Communique).
The Communique shows the following:
First,Continuous Growth in Passenger and Freight Volumes
In 2024, the national railway passenger volume reached 4.312 billion people, an increase of 11.9% compared with the previous year. The total national railway freight volume reached 5.175 billion tons, an increase of 2.8% year-on-year.
Among them:China-Europe Railway Express operated 19,000 trains, transporting 2.07 million TEUs of goods, up 10% and 9% respectively from the previous year.
Trains on the New Western Land-Sea Corridor transported 960,000 TEUs of goods, an increase of 11% year-on-year.
Second,Safe and Orderly Transportation
In 2024, there were no particularly serious or major railway traffic accidents across the national railway network.
Third,High-Quality and Efficient Railway Construction
In 2024, the national railway fixed-asset investment reached 850.6 billion yuan, with 3,113 kilometers of new lines put into operation, including 2,457 kilometers of high-speed railways.
The national railway operating mileage reached 162,000 kilometers, of which 48,000 kilometers were high-speed railways.The double-track rate stood at 60.8%, and the electrification rate at 76.2%.Railway operating mileage in western regions reached 66,000 kilometers.The national railway network density was 168.5 kilometers per 10,000 square kilometers.
In terms of transport equipment:The national railway owned 22,500 locomotives, including 7,800 diesel locomotives and 14,700 electric locomotives.
The national railway owned 81,000 passenger cars, including 4,806 standard EMU sets (38,448 carriages).The national railway owned 1.019 million freight cars.
Fourth,Further Improvement of Standards System
In 2024, 20 national railway standards and 95 railway industry standards were released. Additionally, 7 international railway standards formulated under China's leadership were published.
Fifth,Continuous Emergence of Innovative Achievements
The railway industry won 6 projects in the 2023 National Science and Technology Awards, among which the "Fuxing High-Speed Train" project received the Special Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award. A total of 335 major railway technological innovation achievements were included in the 2024 Railway Major Scientific and Technological Innovation Achievement Database.
Sixth,Steady Progress in Green Development
In 2024, the chemical oxygen demand (COD) emissions of national railways were 1,337 tons, a decrease of 130 tons compared with the previous year. Sulfur dioxide emissions were 456 tons, a decrease of 196 tons year-on-year.
Seventh,Notable Results in Industry Supervision
In 2024, railway regulatory authorities issued 622 administrative licensing decisions, imposed 198 administrative penalties, and made 383 penalty decisions. One regulation and 7 administrative regulatory documents were formulated, revised, and published.
